Open Enrollment

Open Enrollment for 2027 benefits is October 26 through November 6, 2026.

This is your annual opportunity to enroll in or make changes to these benefits:

  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • Flexible spending accounts (FSAs)
  • Supplemental life insurance
  • Supplemental accidental death and dismemberment (AD&D) insurance
  • Accident, critical illness, and hospital indemnity insurance

If you don’t do anything during Open Enrollment, your current benefits will continue in 2027 except FSAs – if you want an FSA in 2027, you must actively enroll in one during Open Enrollment.

What’s New and Changing in 2027

What’s new or changing for 2027?

The pharmacy benefits manager for our Aetna medical plans is changing
Beginning in 2027 Rakuten’s pharmacy benefits will transition from CVS to Rightway. This change is intended to help lower medication costs for employees and provide greater transparency into how prescription drug prices are set. Refer to the Rightway FAQ document or watch this pharmacy benefits manager transition video for additional details about Rightway.

We’re adding a Cancer Support Program

Rakuten is partnering with Color Health to offer cancer support for employees and your families. Color provides access to virtual, cancer-focused clinical care and support throughout the cancer journey, from screening and diagnosis to treatment and survivorship.

Our Dental and Vision plans are getting an enhancement

Beginning in 2027, Rakuten is adding two programs to our dental plan to provide extra support for eligible members:

SmileWay Wellness Benefits: Members with certain qualifying chronic conditions may be eligible for additional coverage for periodontal treatment and up to four extra cleanings or related procedures per year. Qualifying conditions include diabetes, cancer, heart disease, chronic kidney disease, and rheumatoid arthritis.

Next Stage Women’s Health: This program offers enhanced dental benefits for eligible members during pregnancy and menopause, when oral health needs may change. Benefits include additional oral exams, cleanings and related procedures, bitewing X-rays, and fluoride treatments, along with access to partner services for women’s health and menopause support.

For the VSP Vision plan, the in-network allowance for contact lenses is increasing to $150 per year.

We’re rolling out Hospital Indemnity insurance

Hospital indemnity insurance pays a cash benefit if you’re admitted to a hospital for a covered stay. You can use the benefit to help with out-of-pocket medical costs or other expenses, giving you added financial support when you need to. This is an employee-paid benefit.

Spending Account Updates

HSA contribution limits are increasing. You can contribute $4,500 for individual coverage (up from $4,400 in 2026) or $9,000 for family coverage (up from $8,750 in 2026). Team members who will be 55 or older by the end of the 2027 calendar year can contribute an additional $1,000 per year. These limits include Rakuten’s contribution.

Healthcare and Limited Purpose Flexible Spending Account (FSA) maximums will increase to $3,500 (up from $3,400). Additionally, the carryover of unspent funds will increase to $700 for funds remaining at the end of 2027.

Commuter (parking and transit) benefit maximums will increase to $350 per month (up from $340).
